On Thursday, February 26, 2021 Ms. June LaVerne Long, Esq., long-time women’s civil and human rights activist, transitioned to eternal life. For her years of service to the city and state of Sacramento, California, the California Attorney General’s Office, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., June was awarded several accolades of outstanding accomplishment.
June had a passion for community service. As a leader and Board Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., June helped to expand the organization’s social activism in Sacramento, California, the Western United States and abroad.
Born in Wintergarden, Florida, to Susie Ward and James Joshua Long, and reared in Sacramento, California’s Oak Park neighborhood, June pursued studies at Howard University, where she earned her Bachelor of Administration degree in Political Science. She received her law degree from the Santa Clara University School of Law in Santa Clara, California in 1971,and practiced
June was the first of three children. She is survived by her nephew Dimone Long, Esq. of Washington, D.C. and predeceased by her parents, and siblings the Honorable Judge James L. Long and Professor Elton Ward Long.
Attorney June LaVerne Long, Esq. will lie in repose at Morgan Jones Funeral Home at 4200 Broadway, Sacramento, CA 95817 on March 18, 2021. Viewing of the beloved Ms. Long begins at 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on March 19, 2021 at 11 a.m., where Ms. Long will also be honored by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Services will conclude at the Camellia Memorial Lawn at 10221 Jackson Road Sacramento, CA 95827. Funeral arrangements are supported by Morgan Jones Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.
