Los Angeles Postmaster Jeremie Six and Congresswoman Maxine Waters at the Unveiling of the John Lewis Forever Stamp in South Los Angeles.

On Sunday, I was honored to preside over the unveiling of the United States Postal Service Forever postage stamp, which commemorates the extraordinary life and legacy of my dear friend and civil rights icon, John R. Lewis. The Los Angeles community embraced the opportunity to honor and celebrate his remarkable contributions to our nation by being a part of the unveiling of this tribute stamp. The event was held at a United States Postal Service location in South Los Angeles where Los Angeles Postmaster Jeremie Six, the Mayors of Compton and Gardena, other elected officials from across Los Angeles County, past and present USPS staff, among others, came together Sunday morning to mark the historic moment.

John R. Lewis was a revered figure in the Civil Rights Movement. He devoted his life to strengthening our democracy by championing the right of every individual to register and cast their vote.

His unwavering commitment and numerous sacrifices for voting rights will forever place him among the greatest Civil Rights Leaders in our country’s history. This iconic commemoration stamp is yet another way to ensure that John R. Lewis’s profound impact on America’s journey toward equality and justice is immortalized for generations to come.
