Sue Johnson, Owner, S & S Weddings, Brings Heaven To Any Occasion with Style and Class

By Gloria Zuurveen, Editor-in-Chief

The Word of God, the Bible, in Proverbs 18:16 it say, “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.”

Sue Johnson is one of the 10 children of the Jones’ family born and raised in Senatobia, Mississippi. Sue is a living testament to the words in the Bible that says a man’s gift will make room for him and bring him before great men. From meager means, Sue has withstood the test of time and she has made to become the entrepreneur that she is and doing very well as a Black woman-owned business in Senatobia. Sue serves the All of Tate County which includes Coldwater, Independence, Senatobia, Strayhorn and Arkabutla as well as Desoto and Shelby County.  Sue’s gift is rooted and grounded in beauty and the Holy Ghost Spirit. It’s from her heart and she let it flow and in the end she display her show. She does brag about her higher learning , at least not in the traditional way, but for sure her higher learning in from a Supernatural way. No, Sue’s guide has been God and she will clearly tell you so because her entrepreneurial skills are worthy of others to know about her S&S Wedding  and event planning business and  how to make decorations and everythingshe touches look exquisite and divine. When I witnessed her magnificent arrangements and skillful décor for a wedding both indoors and out, I was literally astonished with the elegance and angelic atmosphere she had created. Sue is the founder and owner S & S Weddings in Senatobia, my hometown.
I asked her where did she learn how to do what she does with weddings and event planning. She said, “Girl you know we have to use what we have.” Sue knows a thing a two about using what she has. Growing up poor during Jim Crow but loved and believed in the good Lord up above, they, she and her family of 10 sisters and brothers and one niece along with Mama Laura, her grandmother and her mother, Ms. Ernestine made a way without indoor bathrooms and barely enough space in their 3-room shotgun shack for all of them to lay their backs. They were taught to use what they had  and this is what Sue is talking about. I remember once when Sue and her sister, Vedia, my first cousin, joked once when we were at an event and we were served punch which was very strong and sweet. Sue and Vedia laughed after tasting it and said, “If Madear taste this punch she would have added five more cups of water.” They were laughing and remembering their mom, Ms. Ernestine, would make a little go a long way.”

Sue has the skills and gifts that came from God and she uses them to bless others the way Mama Laura and Ms. Ernestine taught her and all of her siblings to help the community and serve their  fellow man. Sue is a blessing to so many and her gift has brought her before great men and women who have benefitted her as she has built a well-established clientele since her beginnings.

The best part about Sue’s business is that with the Jones’ family she is rarely ever in need of workers and helpers because all she has to do is call and the Jones’ Tribe will jump on a take a ride to make sure that Sue and S&S Weddings keep the family pride. Sue is highly favored with the skills to bless others by spreading her heavenly gift and giving others a big lift on the most precious day of one’s life, a wedding and the joy of having had a first class event by calling S & S Weddings to make them feel heavenly bless.
