The recent news that California Attorney General Rob Bonta is out front and fighting frivolously for Senior Citizens when it comes to scoundrels who will scam seniors and sometimes taking everything they have worked all their lives in order to care for their families and even then, as in one case, it is family members who have the audacity to steal and scam many seniors.
According to Bonta in the latest news release about how he is fighting for seniors, he said, “It is critical that we remain committed to protecting them, including from frauds and scams. Financial fraud has increasingly become a serious issue as more and more scammers target older Americans. Just last year, older Americans were scammed out of more than $3.4 billion – 11% more than the previous year.”
That’s a lot of scamming and I thank God for our Attorney General Rob Bonta who is taking scamming senior as a priority when he has so many other issues coming across his desk, but he is choosing to put a priority on seniors. That says a lot in times like these that seniors has a critical need which is to be protected from greed. Bonta is right when he says that California seniors deserve to live healthy, happy, and financially secure lives. Bonta saidy he is proud to lead DOJ’s Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse in investigating and prosecuting elder abuse. He said they are showing up for seniors like in the case where his office secured a guilty verdict against a woman for stealing $500,000 from her own mother to prosecuting numerous defendants for allegedly defrauding elderly Filipino victims out of their retirement savings. We are committed to protecting older Californians, supporting survivors, and holding perpetrators accountable.
On Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, he urged everyone to familiarize themselves with common scams targeting seniors and help our elderly loved ones remain vigilant. Thank you Attorney General Rob Bonta for fighting fraud and scam against seniors.
