PACE NEWS Ethics, Accuracy and Corrections Policy

Effective Date: June 1, 1995
Last Updated: June 1, 2026

Our Commitment

PACE NEWS is committed to producing accurate, fair, independent and responsible journalism. Since its founding in 1995, PACE NEWS has worked to inform, educate and elevate communities whose voices and concerns are often overlooked.

This policy applies to reporting published in the printed newspaper, on the PACE NEWS website, through affiliated digital platforms, newsletters, social media, video, audio and other editorial products.

1. Accuracy and Verification

PACE NEWS strives to verify all material facts before publication. Reporters and editors are expected to:

  • Confirm names, titles, dates, locations, quotations and statistical information.
  • Seek documentation or direct confirmation whenever reasonably possible.
  • Distinguish verified facts from allegations, opinions, analysis and commentary.
  • Attribute information to its source unless confidentiality has been granted for a legitimate journalistic reason.
  • Contact individuals, agencies or organizations that are the subject of significant criticism and provide a reasonable opportunity to respond.
  • Avoid publishing information known to be false, misleading or materially incomplete.
  • Clearly explain when information could not be independently verified.

Speed does not take priority over accuracy. When facts are still developing, PACE NEWS will identify the report as preliminary or developing and update it as reliable information becomes available.

2. Fairness and Context

PACE NEWS seeks to report stories in their proper context and to avoid omissions that could materially mislead readers.

We will make reasonable efforts to represent relevant viewpoints, especially when reporting on disputes, public controversies, government conduct, elections, criminal allegations or matters affecting a person’s reputation.

Fairness does not require presenting unsupported claims as equal to documented facts. PACE NEWS reserves the right to evaluate the reliability, relevance and credibility of information before publication.

3. Transparency and Sourcing

PACE NEWS will identify sources whenever possible so readers can evaluate the basis of the reporting.

Anonymous or confidential sources may be used when:

  • The information serves a significant public interest.
  • The source may face credible retaliation, personal danger or serious professional harm.
  • The information cannot reasonably be obtained through an identified source.
  • The publisher or responsible editor knows the identity of the source and has evaluated the source’s credibility.

When confidentiality is granted, PACE NEWS will describe the source as accurately as possible without revealing identifying information.

PACE NEWS will disclose when reporting is based substantially on press releases, public records, court documents, government reports, interviews, eyewitness accounts or information supplied by another news organization.

4. Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently of advertisers, sponsors, donors, political campaigns, public officials and outside organizations.

Financial support does not give a funder, advertiser or sponsor authority to direct news coverage, approve stories before publication or prevent the publication of accurate information.

Grant-funded journalism will be produced under the same editorial standards as all other PACE NEWS reporting. When appropriate, PACE NEWS will disclose that a project or reporting initiative received outside financial support.

5. Conflicts of Interest

PACE NEWS journalists, editors and contributors should avoid financial, political, personal or organizational interests that could improperly influence—or reasonably appear to influence—their reporting.

Potential conflicts must be disclosed to the publisher or responsible editor. When a conflict cannot be avoided, PACE NEWS will determine whether reassignment, disclosure or another protective measure is necessary.

PACE NEWS will not accept gifts, payments or favors offered in exchange for favorable editorial treatment.

6. News, Opinion and Sponsored Content

PACE NEWS distinguishes news reporting from opinion, advocacy, advertising and sponsored material.

Editorials, publisher’s columns, guest commentaries and opinion pieces should be clearly identified. Advertisements, paid political communications, advertorials and sponsored content must be labeled so that readers are not misled into believing the material is independently reported news.

The views expressed by guest contributors do not necessarily represent the views of PACE NEWS.

7. Coverage of Children, Victims and Vulnerable Individuals

PACE NEWS exercises particular care when reporting about children, victims of violence, grieving families, people experiencing homelessness, foster youth and other vulnerable individuals.

The public’s need for information will be weighed against foreseeable harm, privacy concerns, personal dignity and the safety of those involved.

PACE NEWS will avoid unnecessarily identifying minors who are victims of abuse, exploitation or sexual offenses unless identification is lawful, clearly in the public interest and handled with appropriate care.

8. Photographs, Video and Digital Media

PACE NEWS will not knowingly alter photographs, audio or video in a way that misrepresents the events depicted.

Cropping, lighting adjustments and other routine production changes may be made when they do not change the factual meaning of the material.

Illustrations, reenactments, composites, digitally generated images or materially altered visual content will be clearly labeled when there is a possibility that readers could mistake them for documentary evidence.

9. Artificial Intelligence and Automated Tools

PACE NEWS may use technological or artificial-intelligence tools to assist with transcription, research organization, proofreading, formatting or administrative functions.

Such tools do not replace human editorial judgment. Material facts, quotations and allegations must be reviewed and verified by a responsible editor or journalist before publication.

PACE NEWS will not knowingly publish fabricated quotations, nonexistent sources, false images or unverified factual claims produced by automated systems.

10. Corrections and Clarifications

PACE NEWS is responsible for correcting material errors promptly, clearly and transparently.

A correction may be required when published material contains an incorrect name, date, quotation, figure, location, description or other factual statement.

A clarification may be published when the original information was not factually false but was incomplete, unclear or reasonably capable of creating a misleading impression.

When an error is confirmed:

  • Digital articles will be corrected in the original article whenever technically possible.
  • A correction or editor’s note will explain what was inaccurate and provide the correct information.
  • Material print errors will be corrected in a subsequent issue.
  • Social-media posts containing a substantial error will be corrected, updated or removed, with an explanatory notice when appropriate.
  • PACE NEWS will not silently change a material factual error in a way that conceals that a correction was made.

Minor spelling, grammar, formatting or typographical changes that do not affect the meaning of the report may be corrected without a formal notice.

11. Retractions and Removal Requests

A retraction may be issued when the central premise of a report is found to be substantially false or unsupported and cannot be corrected adequately through an ordinary correction.

Published material will not ordinarily be removed merely because it later becomes inconvenient, embarrassing or unfavorable to a person or organization.

PACE NEWS may consider removal, anonymization or restricted access in exceptional circumstances involving personal safety, legal obligations, the identification of minors, expunged matters or substantial evidence of serious and disproportionate harm.

12. How to Request a Correction

Readers, sources and members of the public may request a correction or clarification by contacting:

PACE NEWS Editorial Office
Email: [email protected]
Telephone: (323) 244-7286
Mailing Address: 3707 West 54th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90043

Correction requests should include:

  • The title and publication date of the article.
  • A link or description identifying the material in question.
  • The specific statement believed to be inaccurate.
  • The correct information.
  • Any supporting documents, records or reliable sources.

PACE NEWS will acknowledge credible correction requests as promptly as practicable, review the available evidence and communicate its decision when appropriate. Submission of a request does not automatically establish that an error occurred.

13. Accountability

Questions concerning this policy may be directed to the Publisher or Editor-in-Chief of PACE NEWS.

This policy will be reviewed periodically and updated as the publication, technology and accepted journalism practices evolve.
