Congratulations to Angela Allen, Inglewood City Treasurer
By Gloria Zuurveen, Editor-in-Chief
Congratulations to Angela Allen, Inglewood’s newly elected City Treasurer, on her recent appointment to the California Municipal Treasurer’s Association (CMTA) Membership Committee. Allen joins an esteemed group of elected municipal leaders from across the state of California. Since taking office, Allen has hit the ground running, learning the ins and outs of her position while representing Inglewood on a statewide level. The City Treasurer is an elected at-large official who serves a four-year term and plays a crucial role in safeguarding Inglewood’s financial stability. The treasurer is charged with safely investing public funds to achieve the highest possible yield while upholding the highest standards of security, safety, liquidity, and yield. All investments must comply with state statutes, local laws, and City Council ordinances and resolutions, while also ensuring the City’s daily cash flow needs are met without interruption.
This responsibility makes the Treasurer one of the most vital fiscal stewards in municipal government—protecting taxpayer dollars, ensuring accountability, and maximizing returns for the public good. In practice, this means working closely with City departments, financial institutions, and governing bodies to manage funds efficiently, prepare reports, and maintain transparency in all financial transactions. During the recent CMTA Membership Committee meeting, members reviewed the group’s mission, which centers on membership retention, crafting a compelling value statement for CMTA engagement, and conducting outreach to both current and potential members. The committee also emphasized the quality of CMTA’s training programs and the benefits of collaboration with colleagues in the areas of treasury, investments, and debt management.
Allen’s appointment is a reflection of her dedication not only to the City of Inglewood but also to strengthening professional networks and best practices among municipal treasurers across California. Her service on the CMTA Membership Committee will help bring valuable resources, training, and innovative ideas back to Inglewood—benefiting residents and ensuring the City’s finances remain strong, secure, and transparent.
