Woe to the Prophets That Say, Peace, Peace—And There Is No Peace!
The Southern Truth
By Gloria Zuurveen
Violence, violence—it’s all over the land. It is in America, in Europe, and in Israel too. Lord, what must we do?
These are powerful words to ask, but to whom must we turn at last? We, who live on this earth, once void and filled with darkness, now walk in times where peace seems far away.
But in the beginning—God. He gave us who we are—stars. Stars to light the pathway right, so that man could live in harmony. Yet after Cain slew Abel and was banished from the land, Cain became a wanderer, going to and fro. And that same restless spirit is seen again in the book of Job.
“And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.” (Job 1:7; 2:2)
See, the enemy himself has always been on the move, going to and fro, seeking whom he may devour. That spirit of destruction runs through the ages—Cain’s rebellion, Satan’s roaming in Job, the oppressors in Jeremiah’s day. And today, it’s still the same. Evil is roaming, looking for whom it can consume—our children, our families, our very souls. Peace was God’s plan when He gave man and woman the land. But the enemy has always sought to destroy. And still, peace is possible today—if we would only stay in the Way. God said through His prophets: “This is the way, walk ye in it.” (Isaiah 30:21) The contrary path leads only to ruin. This is what Jeremiah declared. His words carried the Spirit, and those who heeded lived in peace. Listen: “Woe to the prophets that say, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.” (Jeremiah 6:14)
In chapter 6, verse 1, Jeremiah warns: “O ye children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Bethhaccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.” Peace is spoken on every hand—from President Donald Trump to leaders across the world. Yet the Word of God speaks plainly today, just as He did yesterday. Evil appears everywhere, from Utah to Gaza, its face real and profound. But God—we must remember—always has the last say. The counterfeit cry of “peace” will not last. Great destruction follows false peace.
Leaders today—presidents, prime ministers, even preachers—are more concerned with greed and earthly gain. To them, God’s Word is chatter. But Lord knows, that’s far from the truth. Jeremiah’s warning was clear: blow the trumpet in Tekoa—warning number one. Set up a fire signal in Bethhaccerem—warning number two. Why? “For evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.” (Jeremiah 6:1) God always gives warnings before the storm. He prepares His people with instruction. And it is coming. It has already arrived on America’s shores—through division, violence, and false philosophies. It rages in the Middle East, where Gaza’s people are being uprooted.
Jeremiah says: “For thus hath the Lord of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her. As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.” (Jeremiah 6:6–7)
Evil then, evil now. Jeremiah’s prophecy still resounds. Wickedness pours out like a fountain. And yet leaders cry, “Peace, peace”—but there is no peace.
The Lord warns again: “Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.” (Jeremiah 6:8)
Lest My soul depart—that’s a powerful warning. And today, with people turning to AI instead of DI—Divine Intelligence—we see this truth unfolding. When young people look to machines without a soul, without the Spirit of God, it leads only to emptiness and despair. Our leaders proclaim peace while practicing oppression. They comfort the people slightly, offering weak solutions that do not heal the wound. Jeremiah says: “They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.” (Jeremiah 6:14)
That is the indictment: ears uncircumcised, hearts hardened. They refuse to hear the Word of the Lord. “To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the Lord is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.” (Jeremiah 6:10)
This is The Southern Truth: Peace without righteousness is no peace at all. True peace comes with repentance, obedience, and love. Like the Good Samaritan, we must act with compassion—not like the Pharisees, priests, and scribes who passed by on the other side. God is real, and He does not play with His creation. Everything He made, He said it was good. But man’s rebellion and greed corrupt what was meant for love and unity.
So today we cry aloud: Woe to the prophets who say, Peace, peace—when there is no peace. The call is to repent, return, and align with the living God. Only then can true peace—God’s peace—reign.
