Wow! That is what task Foreman will reveal in Mrs. Christmas at Christmas — and this musical is one you don’t want your family, at least those 15 and over, to miss. So get in line now and wait to see it. I hope you follow me to the premiere. But if you don’t make it to the opening night, you still have a perfect opportunity to join others as they enjoy this classy musical family affair, live with real characters — not virtual ones.
Mrs. Christmas live on stage — a musical to be exact — is where you will witness with your heart and soul the power of passion that Foreman will demonstrate in this thought-provoking musical event. It will prick the consciousness through voice, dance, and movement to the beat and tug at one’s heart when it comes to remembrance of days gone bye.
Mrs. Christmas is coming to town, and The Southern Truth is here to say the time is now to buy tickets for this grand celebration of the awesome collaboration between the incomparable Karole Foreman and the indisputable creative Tom Jacobson.
The show previews November 28, opens December 4, and runs Thursdays through Sundays until December 21 at the Aurora Theater in Long Beach.
A Holiday Story for the Heart
From the mind behind last year’s Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Play (Crevasse), Mrs. Christmas lights up Southern California’s holidays with another dazzling world premiere from Tom Jacobson.
This brand-new take on holiday traditions delivers savory entertainment for adults, blending laughter and heart in one spirited production.
Directed by SoCal’s multi-award-winning musical theatre notable Karole Foreman — recipient of the Richard Rodgers, Ovation, Jonathan Larson, and Edgerton Foundation honors — the show promises a heartwarmingly irreverent, laugh-out-loud experience for adults seeking fresh, festive entertainment.
Playwright’s Tribute to Women Who Shaped His Spirit
“In high school I was recruited to the choir by a very clever choir mistress, who understood that teens could be lured by food,” recalls playwright Tom Jacobson. “I learned a lot from her, including the story of Mrs. Christmas. After Harriet went to choir heaven, I felt responsible for keeping her memory alive. My family’s crafting queen was Aunt Caryl. Our holiday gift from her was the newest craft she’d learned — from decoupage to Swedish straw Christmas ornaments. Now that she’s in craft heaven (down the hall from choir heaven), Caryl’s crafts are our cherished memories. Mrs. Christmas is my tribute to these two indomitable women and to all the mothers and daughters who struggle to love each other. Maybe some of Mrs. Christmas’s previously undiscovered carols will help.”
Jacobson, the 2024 TED Schmitt Award recipient, has penned numerous celebrated works — from The Twentieth-Century Way to The Friendly Hour — and continues to expand the emotional landscape of American theatre with intellect and imagination.
Karole Foreman: The Soul of the Stage
“I have been wanting to collaborate with Tom Jacobson for decades,” says Karole Foreman. “Having been captivated by the scope of his imagination and the breadth of his intellect since we first met, this play is a wonderfully rich exploration of relationships between parents and children and the legacy of family holidays. It’s the perfect holiday play for me — as I have to confess, I had become jaded about Christmas over the years. I think this play is a kind of redemption and an opportunity to recapture some of the holiday spirit. I am looking forward to sharing this funny, irreverent, and heartfelt story with everyone.”
Foreman’s artistry transcends the stage — a multi-award-winning actress and director whose work includes Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill, Venus Hottentot’s Extreme Makeover, and Ladies of Jazz. Her touch brings soul to the story of Mrs. Christmas.
The Southern Truth Verdict
From the creative mind of Jacobson and the soul-stirring direction of Foreman comes a holiday gift wrapped in laughter, reflection, and artistic passion that speaks to generations. Mrs. Christmas isn’t just another seasonal play — it’s a message of love, memory, and meaning for anyone who’s ever tried to hold family together during the holidays. The Southern Truth says: Don’t miss this one.
