THE SOUTHERN TRUTH: THE PEOPLE’S CALL — GET OUT AND VOTE

By Dr. Gloria Zuurveen | PACE NEWS / Inside Inglewood

In a time when decisions are being made that will shape the future of our communities for generations to come, the call is clear: the people must be informed, engaged, and ready to act. That call will take center stage on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, as the Parent Action Coalition for Education (PACE) hosts a powerful Get Out The Vote Rally in the open air at 3707 West 54th Street in Los Angeles, the home of PACE NEWS—just across the street from Alpha House and the National Council of Negro Women.

This is not politics as usual.

This is purpose in motion.

Presented by Parent Action Coalition for Education (PACE), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the rally reflects its mission to lift up the community through training and teaching—equipping youth and young adults with real tools for success through programs and projects such as financial literacy and civic education. This gathering is an extension of that mission, bringing education directly to the people in a way that is accessible, visible, and necessary.

At its core, this event is about one thing:

The power of the vote.

For more than three decades, PACE NEWS, founded by Dr. Gloria Zuurveen, has served as a legally adjudicated newspaper of general circulation—publishing public notices throughout Los Angeles County and ensuring that the public has access to information that matters. Now, that same commitment moves beyond the printed page and into the community itself.

Because this moment demands more than reading.

It demands participation.

With the June 2, 2026 election just days away, the Get Out The Vote Rally stands as a final opportunity for voters to come out, ask questions, hear from candidates invited to meet the community, and gain a clearer understanding of the ballot initiatives that are seeking public dollars to fund major projects—from healthcare and education to infrastructure and economic development.

These are not abstract decisions.

These are real investments that will impact families, neighborhoods, and the future of Los Angeles.

And that is why the vote must be understood for what it truly is:

Not just a right—but a valuable economic contribution, a declaration of priorities, and a reflection of what the people are willing to stand for.

The rally will bring together community voices in a setting that is both informative and welcoming. Families are encouraged to attend and take part in what is designed to be both educational and engaging. There will be a jumper for the children, popcorn and refreshments for all, and the energy of community connection led by Top Gospel Radio Personality Aundrae Russell and his crew, helping to bring the message home in a way that resonates across generations.

This is Sunday after church—and the message is simple:

Don’t go home.

Come out.

Come one. Come all. Come everyone.

Because in times like these, staying informed is not optional—it is essential.

We are witnessing shifts, challenges, and decisions that echo the struggles of those who came before us—those who fought, sacrificed, and in many cases died, so that this moment, this right, this vote would exist.

And now, it is ours to use.

The Get Out The Vote Rally is not the end of the conversation—it is the beginning of action.

A reminder that when the people are informed, they are empowered.

And when they are empowered—

they decide.
